WarwickTECH Team

WarwickTECH is a student-led angel fund building Warwick University’s tech hub. Over the past 6 years, we’ve run internationally recognised events including WarwickHACK with support from Major League Hacking, and Tech Night LDN in collaboration with she++. We recently changed our operating model to start investing in startups founded by alumni, staff, faculty, and students from Warwick University. We hope that they will join the likes of early-stage projects Fanbytes, HomeRun, Ticketpass, Finimize, CloudNC and FavourUp and more mature companies including Buffer, Firebase, and Electric Imp who also have Warwick alum as founders.

About the role:

WarwickTECH will help you to develop the skills and expertise that you’re most passionate about, excel at, and will help you find the role when you graduate where you can thrive 🚀

If you’re on the Partnership track, you are likely a future founder or venture investor. You’ll have some interest in setting up your venture or supporting early-stage startups with venture capital, startup incubation, or acceleration. You may be interested in working with growth-stage startups through other forms of venture financing (e.g. debt). Our community has worked for and worked with startups and funds including Ticketpass, HomeRun, FavourUp, Startupbootcamp, General Crypto, Shrug Capital, Zinc.vc, Outlier Ventures, and Atomico.

If you’re on the Coding track, you may also be a future founder but want to cut your teeth in Software Engineering, DevOps, Product Development, Product Marketing, Design, Developer Advocacy, or Developer Evangelism. Members of our team and community have worked for the likes of PyCom, SigFox, MLH, the Guardian, Data&Data, and the community-owned creative consultancy Emperor.

If you’re on the Operations track, you’ll probably start life out in growth, marketing, or partnerships when you graduate — likely at an early-stage startup. You may also be interested in Law, Business Intelligence, Accounting & Finance, or Operations in a scale-up, or supporting these organisations through Platform support and Ecosystem support more broadly. After building this experience you’d be well on your way to starting your venture should you wish!

How we work

WarwickTECH is an organisation that runs like a high-growth startup — everyone works on everything at some stage and we’re not afraid to make big changes. Expect to work on two projects at any given time, a process (like marketing, web design, or partnerships) and an event (like Startup Day, Campus Startup, or a larger event like WarwickHACK!). We’re always improving how we operate, and consistently provide time for every member of the team to express their views during their one-to-ones and during team-wide socials.

Perks and compensation:

As a registered charity and independent organisation (not a SU-society) we have a lot of flexibility in how we can support you. We’re already investing in startups and can bring you in on the sourcing and due-diligence process should you wish — building an investment track record usually takes decades! We’ve already participated in events across Europe including our event in the Shard Tech Night LDN, the startup fair Silicon Milkroundabout, and the startup conference Tech Day London since they launched here 5 years ago (we helped them land the Shard for their pre-party!). We’ve even sent team members to Eidenhoven to participated in MLH’s HackCon Europe. Although we work on a purely voluntary basis, we cover all the expenses necessary to thrive as part of the team (including all travel and food costs for meetings and conferences).

To apply:

To find out more, send an email to [hello@warwick.tech], attaching your CV and LinkedIn profile (and GitHub if on the Coding Track), and a note telling us about what area of technology you’re interested in and why, and how you’d add value to the WarwickTECH community (no more than 150 words) — looking forward to speaking to you! We recruit on a rolling basis so you can apply at any time!
